I noticed that Christianne's email calls the attachments a "sneak preview" of the standard grant application materials. Also, the attachments are numbered but number 2 wasn't included. I think it's probably worth following up with Christianne to make sure we have the official, complete application materials. I'm happy to do that, or is there someone in your office you'd like me to work with on the details of this?

Thanks!

Melissa

Cylvia, It was great to talk with you briefly by phone today. As promised, attached I’m sending you a “sneak preview” of our standard grant application materials, so you can get a better sense of what a proposal would entail. Please don’t hesitate to call or email me if there’s any additional information or guidance I can provide to support your initial planning. Best regards, Christianne

Greetings Christianne,

This is terrific news. We need to do a bit more thinking about what the Oregon Solutions component might look like but I think we are very likely to want to move it forward. Also, I love the idea of the case study. It would be so gratifying if all of our hard work on this could catalyze effective work in other states/ regions. We would need to think about timing for this because we really are still in the planning phase, with innovative, concrete actions just beginning to be implemented. We expect the Prosperity Plan to be completed and for the whole body of work to be in implementation phase by summer.

I think it very likely we will want to submit an application and we can get that pulled together in March. We have numerous options for non-profits to be the grant recipient. I will get back to you as soon as we’ve had our next conversation about this (next week) to get your input on our thinking about all of this.

One other thing I wanted to let you know about. To my delight are we going to be launching a KIVA Oregon program through which individuals can make loans starting as low as $25 to Oregonians who are working to start/ expand small businesses and need micro-loans. This is moving much faster than I thought possible and I am very pleased to see this happening. We will likely do an official launch event sometime this summer. Information is attached. The work taking place right now is securing Trustees and the first likely borrowers.

Thanks so much for the invitation.

Subject: Following up on our call last month re: Oregon Prosperity Initiative

First Lady Cylvia and Karen,

I wanted to follow up on our call last month, where we discussed potential opportunities to support the next phase of work under the Oregon Prosperity Initiative. As I recall, we identified the economic development aspects of the Prosperity Plan as the best fit with the Foundation’s focus on increasing good jobs and improving financial capability. My understanding is that Oregon Solutions would convene business, government, and nonprofit leaders to develop an integrated solution and blueprint for action for implementing this work.

After our call, it also occurred to me that there might be value in putting together a case study about the Oregon Prosperity Initiative, which could be shared with leaders in other states that want to learn from your experience. Would this be something you’d be interested in exploring?

We will be sending out invitations for our next funding cycle (June) next week. I would like to include you in this round, if possible. Please confirm if you are prepared to put together a proposal in March, and if so, what organization would be the grantee (e.g. Oregon Business Council Charitable Institute, Oregon Solutions, etc). Also, please let me know who should receive the grant application materials.

Thanks so much. I look forward to partnering with you in advancing this important work.

Best regards,

Christianne
