Cylvia,

This request is for May 10th at 10:00 am for a press conference on the west lawn steps of the Capitol in celebration of Women’s Health Week. Your calendar looks fairly open in the morning before your noon Potters Lunch at Mahonia. Would you let Jan know if this will

work for you?

Thanks,

Mary

Subject: Event participation request RE: Women's Health Week

Hi Mary,

Here are the details of our inquiry for the First Lady;

May 8th- 13th is National Women’s Health Week and the Oregon Women’s Health and Wellness Alliance (OWHWA) is hosting a series of events on May 10th in celebration of Women’s Health Week and to draw attention to the work of the OWHWA this session. The Oregon Women’s Health and Wellness Alliance will be holding a press conference on May 10th at 10:00am on the west lawn steps to highlight two of our agenda items this session; SB 348 which is aimed at raising awareness for the debilitating disease of lupus and SB 433 which expands eligibility for the treatment of breast and cervical cancer through the Oregon Breast and Cervical Cancer Program.

Our request would be to have the First Lady join us for the press conference and possibly present a signed copy of SB 348 to Molly’s Fund (SB 348 has now passed unanimously though both the House and Senate and should be before the Governor for his signature next week).

Here’s a bit of background for reference;

As you may know, the OWHWA is a is a bipartisan group of legislators, health care personnel, state and local agency staff and citizen advocates dedicated to promoting the health, safety and economic well being of women that has introduced a package of legislation aimed at improving women’s health since 1993. Senate Bill 348 is one of our priorities this session.

As the current Co-Chairs of the OWHWA, Senator Rosenbaum and Representative Tomei introduced SB 348 on behalf of the non-profit Clackamas based group, Molly’s Fund, Fighting Lupus. SB 348 is aimed at raising awareness for the debilitating disease of lupus by declaring May 10th, 2011 Oregon Lupus Day and May of every year, Lupus Awareness Month.

For the press conference, Secretary of State Brown will be reading the Governor’s Proclamation on National Women’s Health Week. Other speakers will include Senator Rosenbaum, Molly from Molly’s Fund, Chris McDonald, E.D. of Komen for the Cure and possibly one or two others.

I’ve attached a copy of SB 348 as well as the one-pager of OWHWA’s 2011 Legislative agenda. Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Thank you for your time and consideration of this request.

Best,

Megan
