Fariborz,

I so appreciate you. I am so glad our life paths have intersected. I don’t know about the class project history. I will check. Momentum is growing around this prosperity work all the time and I think ALF fellows engagement will happen and could be hugely beneficial.

Peace,

C

Cylvia,

Looks great! If engaged, the ALF network can make great contributions to this effort.

Has this topic been a class project before? I was thinking what if one day of the next class’ schedule was dedicated to this topic and we had Donna as a presenter along with you and a couple others who could really light up the interest in the topic. If a project emerges from that, it can contribute to the effort. If not, at least seeds are planted to raise consciousness and get a few more fellows engaged and involved. Just a thought.

Thanks again for including me in this conversation.

Hi All,

Lots to think about from the dialogue yesterday!

Here is a recent TED talk that describes how our collective thinking undermines the non-profit sector's ability to change the world. I recommend taking the time to view this.

http://www.ted.com/talks/dan_pallotta_the_way_we_think_about_charity_is_dead_wrong.html?utm_source=email&source=email&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ios-share

How might the Prosperity Initiative help shift the nature of philanthropy and how we run our non-profits to encourage innovation and meaningful, change-making scale? A philanthropy forum (or series thereof) with ALF quality dialogue around this might be a great start.

Best,

Greg

Subject: Invitation to a special ALF working session

Greetings,

I am inviting you to take part in something big -- using your ALF perspective to eradicate poverty in Oregon. You are invited to be part of a small group working session to discuss utilizing American Leadership Forum principles and practices to tackle poverty in Oregon. Details are below.

As First Lady I have launched the Oregon Prosperity Initiative, aimed at effectively addressing the root causes of poverty and raising awareness about the crisis of poverty. As part of that work we are developing for the first time ever a comprehensive poverty-reduction plan for the State, which will be unveiled later this year.

I am also an ALF Fellow (class 24) and on the Board of ALF Oregon. There may be a powerful opportunity to engage ALF in helping poverty reduction become a “movement” in Oregon.

ALF Silicon Valley has done substantive work on poverty issues and two people involved in that work (Greg Ranstrom and Chris Block) have generously offered to attend this working session and share the work they have undertaken in California.

WHEN: March 12, 2013. 10am to 3pm (lunch will be provided)

WHERE: Mahonia Hall (Oregon Governor’s Residence). 533 SE Douglas St. Salem, OR 97302

AGENDA:

10:10 Welcome and description of the intent of this dialogue

10:30 Intros and Check-in

10:50 Overview of Prosperity Initiative Purpose, Goals and Status

(Written brief would be helpful, if it exists)

11:10 Description of Step Up Silicon Valley effort as a "Leaderful Network"

(Written material: Step Up Silicon Valley brief, Common Ground/Common Good - a framework for positive change)

11:30 Oregon Prosperity Initiative as a leaderful network

Dialogue: What is the current state of the Oregon Prosperity Initiative when viewed as a leaderful network?

12:30 Lunch

1:15 Oregon Prosperity Initiative "Network Weaving" (evolving the network from fragments to core/periphery?)

Dialogue: Who (individuals/agencies, etc.) need to be connected and what forums will best support the development of the network?

2:00 Next Steps

2:30 Check-out

Please RSVP to Robin Teater at rteater@alfo.org.

Thank you. We hope you will be able to join us in this work.
