Hi Cylvia,

PSU has a ballroom in the Smith Student Union with a capacity of 300-500 (www.pdx.edu/cegs/smith-memorial-student-union ). They charge $250 per hour, or $1500 per day. It is no cost for student organizations, but the rules that qualify the event as one sponsored by a student org don’t apply to PDX2GulfCoast (see attached pdf) . Contact number is 503-725-4442.

The Univ of OR White Stag Block building has a maximum capacity of 200 (www.pdx.uoregon.edu/?p=eventrequest ). They don’t have a set rate yet; it varies based on the meeting and there needs to be some sort of university affiliation, but not a student org sponsorship like PSU. If the event can be capped at 200 people, more info on rates is available from Charity Feeney at 503-412-3747.

If the group decides to have a much smaller meeting, check with Bob Sallinger on the use of Audubon’s facility, which fits 75 people and is in a lovely wooded setting.

And I’ve never been there, but the World Forestry Center – Miller Hall by the Oregon Zoo looks like it might be fitting. It has a capacity of 250-300 people. I wasn’t able to reach them to find out their rates; their number is 503-488-2101 (www.worldforestry.org/facility-rental/events-spaces.html ). It is probably too expensive. I’m guessing OMSI is also expensive, so I didn’t check with them.

I hope this gives the group a little help getting started.

Thanks,

Rebecca

Greetings R,

Will you please check into the cost and seating capacity of the venues below?

I would recommend PSU or UO’s White Stag. If you get a student group to sponsor an event, they will waive the room rental charge.

Thanks,

C

No, it needs to be indoors. Any other ideas?

I think the World Trade Center II building could accommodate 300 people, but I think, it has to be outdoor. Do you know the exact date? and will it be OK if it is not inside?

Thanks.

I would offer something here in our building but we don’t have a facility that gets even close to 300 people. For big meetings, the DoubleTree Lloyd Center has good facilities but it gets expensive. I’ll ask some of our event folks to see if they can recommend something.

Hey Guys,

My PDX2GulfCoast group is planning to do a conference tied to the anniversary of the Deep Horizon catastrophe in April. We are looking for a venue that can handle up to 300 people and that is CHEAP. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Cylvia
